Emily, Lexis and Alexis

Emily, Lexis and Alexis

A few weeks ago, some very enterprising girls had an idea. Lexis Brungardt and her friend Alexis Heaton decided to do something to help others. With help from Lexis’s mother, Mendi, they made a list of local charities and decided to have a bake sale. Lexis said she likes animals, so the Finney County Humane Society was chosen.

The help of three other friends was enlisted and the baking began in earnest. Emily Greene, Rylee Ortiz and Emilie Palmer joined Lexis and Alexis in the cause. They made flyers and and contacted friends, family, neighbors and teachers. When the dust settled (or in this case, the flour and sugar!) the girls had raised nearly $400 for the animals! Alexis said many people donated more than the cost of the baked items when they found out who would benefit from the girls’ efforts.

Mendi Brungardt contacted the Humane Society asking when the girls might be able to present their money to the organization. The information was forwarded to me as president of the FCHS….and I just happen to be the associate principal where three of the girls go to school!

So, on a day when teachers were at inservice, those three girls came to school and had their pictures taken with my dog Curly Joe and foster dog Jillian. The FCHS is very proud of these five young ladies and their efforts for the animals of their community.

What a generous and unselfish act! Thank you!
